GERALD S. TOPAZI

Mr. Topazi came to Natter & Fulmer after serving as a District Court Judge for Jefferson County, Alabama from 1984 until 2001. In 2001 he became the Presiding Judge of District Court of Jefferson County, Civil Division. Prior to that time, Mr. Topazi was a partner at Jones, Propst & Topazi from 1965 to 1984.

The principal focus of Mr. Topazi’s practice in recent years has been the provision of advice and counsel on matters related to corporate litigation. Mr. Topazi’s approach to Litigation and Dispute Resolution is unique due to his extensive experience. He is passionate in the courtroom and seeks solutions in the boardroom. He recognizes the soundest legal strategy embraces a deep understanding of business principles. When litigation is necessary, he is a tireless advocate; when settlement is in his clients’ best interests, he is a problem solver.

Mr. Topazi was appointed to a three-year term on the Alabama Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution in March of 2003 by the Lt. Governor of Alabama, and was reappointed to another three-year term in 2006. This commission promotes mediation and arbitration in lieu of legal action to settle disputes and sets guidelines for the implementation of such programs in the state court system.

Mr. Topazi has an extensive background in personal injury, product liability and wrongful death cases. His experience on the bench allows him to obtain, organize and present evidence in ways that are clear and convincing to judges and juries.
